If you want one small camera for stills, horizontal films and vertical edits, the Sigma FP2 is an intriguing new starting point. The purchase decision is about the complete working kit: a compact body can stay compact, or become a larger system once you add viewing, sound and support equipment.

This is an announcement analysis, not a field review. Wait for independent recording and autofocus checks before relying on a new body for paid work.

Sigma FP2 US price and release date

Sigma America announced the FP2 on October 23. US availability is scheduled for November 11, 2026, at $2,199 body only. The 50mm F2 DG Contemporary kit and EVF-21 kit are $2,749 each. These are separate bundles, not one package containing both accessories.

Those are announced manufacturer prices, not Amazon offers or guarantees of delivery. Our FP2 button opens a search, which may include older fp bodies, accessories or unrelated results. Do not order without checking the exact item.

A small body with room to grow

The Sigma specification sheet lists a 24.5MP partially stacked full-frame sensor, phase- and contrast-detection AF, bursts up to 20 fps, 70GB of internal storage and an SD UHS-II slot. Dimensions are 112.8 × 69.9 × 41.8mm; weight is approximately 388 g body only or 446 g with battery, before adding a lens or optional modules.

Internal storage can help when a card fills, but it still needs offloading and backup. Treat it as another recording destination, not an unlimited video recorder or a replacement for a media plan.

6K Open Gate: framing freedom, with conditions

Sigma lists 6K modes up to 59.94 fps, subject to codec restrictions; ProRes RAW tops out at 6K 29.97 fps. L-Log, waveform and false color support exposure and grading decisions.

Open Gate can help when one recording must become different aspect ratios. Leave room around the subject when composing: extra sensor area does not automatically make a horizontal shot work vertically. Test a short file in your editor, including playback, color management and export.

There is no mechanical IBIS. Electronic stabilization is video-only and unavailable in 6K. For walking footage, plan camera support around that restriction.

What requires an accessory?

Your goal What to budget or verify
Eye-level viewing Optional EVF-21; the body has a tilting rear LCD
32-bit float sound Sigma’s footnote specifies HU-21 plus Panasonic DMW-XLR2 and DMW-DMS1
A ready-to-shoot lens kit A compatible L-Mount lens; body-only pricing excludes it
Moving 6K shots Support and technique; 6K cannot use EIS

The launch release describes the dedicated modules. Start with the obstacle you actually face. A viewfinder may help outdoors; an audio chain adds little value to silent B-roll. Confirm the complete supported sound setup before ordering.

Three other products worth comparing

Panasonic LUMIX S9: an alternative for handheld work

The LUMIX S9 is another camera body, not an accessory. Panasonic documents a full-frame L-Mount system with in-body stabilization and Active I.S. That makes it worth comparing if most of your work is handheld.

This does not mean it matches every FP2 codec or recording mode. Compare your delivery format, editor and support gear. Keep your current camera if it already makes those files reliably.

LUMIX S 20mm F2.5: wide scenes in small spaces

Panasonic’s 142 g S-S20K is a full-frame L-Mount prime for interiors, establishing shots and environmental video when you cannot step back. It is an optional lens choice, not something every buyer needs alongside a bundled 50mm.

A LUMIX G 20mm Micro Four Thirds lens is a different product. Panasonic-specific functions such as Crop Zoom are not promised on the FP2. Check camera firmware and supported controls; mount identity alone is not a complete compatibility test.

LUMIX S 40mm F2: an everyday compact prime

The 144 g S-S40K offers tighter framing than 20mm and a brighter F2 aperture. It may suit street details, everyday scenes and portraits with context. Panasonic specifies a 30cm minimum focusing distance.

Try both focal lengths on an existing zoom before buying two primes. Choose the view your current kit cannot provide. A brighter aperture can allow a faster exposure, but it does not give the FP2 mechanical stabilization.

Sigma FP2 vs Sigma fp: upgrade for a real constraint

The announced autofocus, storage and video changes give original fp owners reasons to investigate. They do not establish reliable tracking, clean fast pans or long takes in summer heat.

List the missed shots or editing problems first. If the FP2 addresses them, compare the complete kit and wait for relevant tests. If lighting, camera support or editing technique is the obstacle, work on that before replacing a functioning camera.

Method and limitations

Announcement analysis using Sigma America and Panasonic US sources checked October 24, 2026. No independent camera or lens measurements. The cover is an AI-generated conceptual scene; product cards use separate manufacturer photographs.

  • No independent measurements of autofocus, rolling shutter, heat, battery endurance, optical sharpness or recording reliability.
  • Weights follow Sigma's current US specification sheet and exclude a lens or optional modules.
  • L-Mount identity does not establish every camera-specific lens function or firmware interaction.
  • No exact Amazon US ASIN is confirmed; searches do not establish stock or delivery.

Five key takeaways

  • The body and the two separate launch bundles have announced US pricing, not verified Amazon stock.
  • 6K frame-rate ceilings depend on the codec; ProRes RAW has a lower maximum.
  • There is no mechanical IBIS, and electronic stabilization cannot be used in 6K.
  • Eye-level viewing and the specified 32-bit float audio path require optional hardware.
  • All four Amazon buttons are clearly labeled searches; no exact US ASIN is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Sigma FP2 have IBIS?

No. Sigma specifies electronic stabilization for video only and excludes it from 6K recording. Plan support for moving shots rather than assuming stabilization works in every mode.

Are these verified Amazon product listings?

No. The buttons open Amazon.com searches with our US affiliate tag. Check the exact model, mount, bundle, seller, US warranty and delivery terms. A search result is not a verified FP2 offer.

Should original Sigma fp owners upgrade immediately?

Only investigate an upgrade if a specific limitation affects your work. Announcement specifications do not establish measured gains in tracking, rolling shutter or sustained recording.
